Bringing together the best talents in the disciplines that constitute its perimeter of excellence, Sorbonne University intends to be among the first universities in the world.

In spring 2012, Sorbonne University was one of the successful candidates of the Excellence Initiative (IDEX) call for projects. This call aimed to create between 5 and 10 world-class pluridisciplinary clusters of higher education and research.

As a result of this success an official agreement was signed with the government, which provides Sorbonne University with:

• Funding of about 30 million euros each year;
• A clear framework and calendar of key actions up until 2016.
