5 reasons to study in Paris!

Paris is still a favorite destination for students! At least, that is what the latest study conducted by the international agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) says. Still not convinced? Here are Sorbonne University’s top 5 reasons to give the French experience a try!

#1 Because you will never have the chance to live among such rich culture again

With more than 170 museums, 3 opera houses, 208 theatres and 84 cinemas, you will never be bored!* (official figures from the Paris tourist office) There is such a rich cultural life on offer in Paris and students can make the most of numerous benefits (reduced entry prices in particular). An example of this rich cultural life is that entry to museums in the French capital is free on the first Sunday of every month! You will therefore have the opportunity to admire the Mona Lisa, discover the latest exhibition on Great Apes at Paris’ Natural History Museum or even wander through the renovated galleries of the Musée de l’Homme to your heart’s content.

#2 Because you can finally learn the most beautiful language in the world

Speaking French will be a true asset to your studies and this language still has strong connections to fashion, gastronomy and even the arts. But, if you still cannot read the original version of Victor Hugo’s texts or understand the songs of Edith Piaf, there is no need to panic! There are learning centers in most universities (particularly at Sorbonne University through the Inter-university Department of Language Learning) and numerous international programs conducted either completely in English or at least in part :)

#3 Because university education in France is financially accessible to everyone

France funds a significant proportion of this education and there is no distinction made for international students; you will be entitled to the same access conditions, degrees and registration fees as any French student! If you choose to study at a French public university, registration fees will only be around 500 euros for one year of study! However, you should allow for 1000 euros per month to cover your day to day expenses. If finding accommodation sometimes seems like an uphill battle, there are numerous financial aids available to support international students, like Sorbonne University’s program for international mobility grants.

#4 Because you will spend every second living life ‘à la française’

A coffee and croissant sitting outside a cafe, a walk along the banks of the Seine, a picnic in the Jardin du Luxembourg, enjoying macarons from the famous La Durée, and so on. The spirit and magic of Paris would be nothing without its monuments, cafes and parks. As a student in Paris, you will have time to enjoy all the wonders and sites which seem to be almost frozen in time, particularly in the Latin Quarter which is home to the historic Paris-Sorbonne University.

#5 Because you will be walking in the footsteps of the great writers and artists

Picasso, Dali, Hemingway, Matisse and many more. Paris has been home to many literary greats, philosophers, musicians and artists who would hurry through the City of Lights in search of inspiration.  Some historical figures even frequented Parisian universities as part of the student body, such as the famous scientists Pierre and Marie Curie who, consequently, gave their name to the first French science university, the UPMC.
